So as of late, I’ve been finding a lot of little tricks for WordPress. The latest trick really impressed me and will be very handy when I’m away from the computer, say, disc golfing or something.

Here’s the concept, call a 1 866 number, tell the automated voice system you want to post to WordPress, and then start talking, clearly. In about two minutes it’ll show up as a post under your author name on your blog with a link for users to listen to your post. It’s that slick.

Total setup time is about 15 minutes and there are some things you can do to set it up further. Don’t like texting into twitter all the time? It can update your twitter account too as well as a host of other online utilities.

Here’s a brief tutorial on how to set it up for your WordPress Blog:

• Go to http://www.jott.com and set up an account, it’s free and quick.
• Enter in your info and agree to the terms of service
• Verify your email address,/li>
• Enter your phone number (you can add more numbers later)
• Call 1 866 JOTT-123 and it will activate your phone with your Jott account and
• start you on your first jott, to yourself.
• Go to the “Links” page in your Jott account and add WordPress
• Fill out the info for your blog and blog author and hit “Save”
• Now call 1 866 JOTT-123 and say “WordPress” when it asks you “Who do you want to
• Jott?” Then Start your message.
• Remember to speak clearly and in a place without a lot of background noise. Jott does a
  good job of picking out the right words but it’s a good idea to check the posts when you get back in front of the comp.

There’s a ton of usage with this web utility and voice posts to WordPress blogs is just the tip of the iceberg. I’d love to hear about how you’re using it.

Well not all of them. Over the weekend I went to WordCamp Dallas 2008 in Frisco TX. It was very informative and got my head more in the game then it’s ever been. I have so much to do to get things up to speed. From day one I was sucked into the WordPress “clique”. I had a lot of fun after hours at the Frisco bar and e-heckling (a great use for twitter). I got to talk briefly with Matt Mullenweg, creator of the WordPress platform. He’s a terribly nice guy and his Mom is a lot of fun too. He gave the first presentation of the conference about the new release (2.5) gratuitously as he just had his wisdom teeth out. 2.5 is so awesome, simply awesome. It is going to bring back the popularity of WordPress and might just sink the tumblr ship.

John Pozadzides’s presentation “45 Ways to Power Up Your Blog” was so great. While SpoutBlog is half way there I realize that I have a lot of work to do. If you’re a blogger and want to get out of the amateur status and start looking like you know what your doing… follow this link. Thanks John!

Just upgraded to 2.5 as Matt Mullenweg is showcasing it. Which is kind of funny. Matt’s the father of WordPress. If you’re running WP upgrade to 2.5 as soon as possible.

Here I am at WordCamp 2008. They’re just now starting and I’m already feeling welcome. A number of the speakers and attendees are staying at the hotel I’m at and I’ve meet a few of them. Very nice peoples. The Frisco Municipal building is very nice, brand new, and plush. It’ll be a very comfortable conference and already I want to sign up for the next WordCamp. I’ll be posting over the course of the day so stay tuned.

 

The fashion show is over and done with. It was crazy and kind of half asses but… fun. Instead of doing a painting on stage I ended up doing body painting. All I have right now is some backstage photos, the lighting was bad and I couldn’t snap any myself so I’m waiting on the professional shots.

I’m so excited for WordCamp Dallas. I convinced my bosses at Spout.com to send me, and for good reason. WordPress has come a long long way since it’s beta version. It’s a terribly powerful blog engine and I’ve oft felt overwhelmed at the helm of the blog.spout.com site. They truly have put their eggs in my basket and I am greatful because it’s the best way to learn. So anyway, WordCamp Dallas is gonna be awesome.
