I can see the advantage. It seems like a good first step towards the cloud. Will MS be developing MS Office Suite as a web app at any point. Also, how has OpenOffice effected the development of this new project?

One big advantage I mentioned above is that Office Live Workspace can be integrated directly into MS Office programs. This is a huge advantage for people who use MS Office and are constantly saving and updating docs, spreadsheets, ppts etc.

I really appreciate your feedback Pete. Office Live Workspace as you may have noticed is still in beta so getting to have this conversation with you is very beneficial.

Thanks!
Jeff

Thanks Jeff, the more options like this the better but I will say (unbiased) that Google has tapped into that idea already with Google Documents. It's been out on beta release for a bit now and from what tinkering I've done with it, it's pretty good. Hopefully this Microsoft product can do something that this doesn't.

Hey Pete-
I thought I would share with you one service that Microsoft is developing that will help push people towards the cloud. The service is called Office Live Workspace, and it allows people to store files online, and the collaborate with others on these files. It can be plugged into MS Office, meaning a user is only a few clicks away from saving their docs, spreadsheets, ppts etc to the cloud.

Microsoft is also working on web-app versions of Office Programs so that people will be able to utilize a large portion of the functionality these programs posses that once required a software download.

Cheers,
Jeff
